Ranking
Immune formulas are one of the most crowded categories on iHerb, and one where seasonal marketing outweighs labels. Elderberry products in particular vary widely: some state the extract amount and standardization, many do not.
We ranked elderberry, echinacea, colostrum, lactoferrin and multi-ingredient immune formulas sold on iHerb by label quality. Single vitamin C, vitamin D and zinc products have their own rankings.

Every product is scored 0–100 from its label data in the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database: dosage transparency (35 points - are amounts stated per ingredient, or hidden in a proprietary blend?), label completeness (25), formulation cleanliness (25 - fillers, dyes, titanium dioxide and other non-active ingredients) and ingredient profile (15). The Top 10 admits only products scoring 60 or higher; among those, products with a verified retail listing are shown first so the list is one you can act on. No brand can pay to be included or moved up.
There are no official doses for elderberry or echinacea; compare extract amounts between products. For the vitamins and minerals in immune blends, the NIH upper limits apply: vitamin C 2,000 mg, zinc 40 mg, vitamin D 4,000 IU per day for adults.
Adults who want a clearly labeled immune product rather than an undisclosed seasonal blend.
Proprietary immune blends, sugar-heavy syrups and gummies, zinc above 40 mg per day from all sources, and echinacea if you are allergic to ragweed.
They have their own category rankings. This one covers products sold for immune support as a whole, such as elderberry, echinacea and immune blends.
By the extract amount and its ratio or standardization per serving. "Elderberry 500 mg" without either tells you little.
Products are ranked by SupplementScore, which evaluates label quality across four categories: dosage transparency (35 pts), label completeness (25 pts), formulation cleanliness (25 pts), and ingredient profile (15 pts). The score is based on data from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database, not marketing claims.
No. The SupplementScore measures label quality, how transparent, clean, and well-documented a product is. It does not measure clinical efficacy, bioavailability, or third-party testing. A higher score means better label practices, not guaranteed results.
We analyzed 4,473 immune support products from the NIH DSLD database, which contains label data for over 116,000 dietary supplements sold in the United States.
